Beta Alanine
What are the benefits of beta alanine for horses?
Beta-alanine is a non-essential amino acid and popular dietary supplement with weight-lifters. In recent years, many equine owners have also started to understand the benefits of beta-alanine for horses. Beta-alanine works in the body by producing carnosine, a molecule that reduces lactic acid build-up. This in turn can help to reduce fatigue, build endurance and contribute to the creation of lean muscle mass.
What horses may need beta-alanine in their diets?
Beta-alanine may be especially beneficial to show horses or any that undertake a large amount of training. It can also be given to both younger and older horses to support the growth and maintenance of healthy joints and muscles.
How do I feed beta-alanine to my horse?
As part of our Equine Essentials range, beta-alanine is available as a powdered supplement that can directly be added to your horse’s normal daily feed. We recommend introducing the supplement gradually.
How much beta-alanine should I feed my horse?
The amount of any supplement that you give your horse will likely vary depending on its size, but for average horses we recommend 10 grams for every 100 kilograms of body weight per day.
Are there any side effects of beta-alanine for horses?
If added to feed in the correct amounts, there are no known negative side effects of beta-alanine for horses.
