Gamma Oryzanol
What are the benefits of gamma oryzanol for horses?
Gamma oryzanol – also known as rice bran oil or rice bran wax – is a naturally derived ingredient packed with vitamins and healthy fats. It is a popular supplement with a range of health benefits, particularly related to equine performance and muscle growth. For horses, rice bran oil is thought to help maintain a healthy fat-to-muscle ratio by increasing fat metabolism and supporting the growth of lean muscle mass. Many equine owners report that it is beneficial for improving muscle definition, and maintaining a healthy appetite. There are also known secondary benefits of gamma oryzanol on gastrointestinal health, and the supplement is thought to help lower the risk of ulcers.
Which horses would benefit from gamma oryzanol in their diet?
Due to its effect on muscle growth and performance, rice bran oil is particularly suited to show horses, racing horses or any that have problems maintaining a lean muscle to fat ratio.
Is gamma oryzanol safe for horses?
Gamma oryzanol is a naturally occurring substance extracted from rice bran, and so is safe for humans and horses alike. It is also safe for pregnant mares.
How do I feed gamma oryzanol to my horse?
As part of our Equine Essentials range, gamma oryzanol can easily be added to your horse’s normal daily feed. We recommend adding around 0.5 to 1 gram of feed for every 100 kilograms of body weight.
