Cinnamon
What are the benefits of cinnamon for horses?
Cinnamon is a popular spice for people and horses alike, and is often used by humans to help improve digestion, regulate blood sugar and fight infections due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Many owners find that cinnamon is particularly useful for maintaining healthy digestion in horses. Thanks to its soothing properties, it can calm the digestive system and lead to healthier droppings and less flatulence. Overweight horses could also see benefits from cinnamon due to claims that it helps to reduce resistance to insulin.
How should I add cinnamon to my horse’s diet?
With our finely milled cinnamon powder, adding the spice to your horse’s diet is easy: simply mix the recommended amount in with their feed. For help managing your horse’s weight, ensure that cinnamon is used as part of a healthy diet as recommended by your vet.
Are there any side effects of cinnamon for horses?
As a naturally occurring spice, cinnamon is safe for horses and there are currently no known negative side effects. However, it is not recommended for pregnant or lactating mares.
How much cinnamon is safe for horses to consume?
Recommended amounts of cinnamon will vary depending on the size of your horse, but between 2 grams for each 100 kilograms of body weight per day is recommended to support healthy digestion.
