Cockapoo Breed Information

Known for their curly coats, hypoallergenic fur and friendly personalities, cockapoos have quickly become one of the most popular dog breeds in the United Kingdom. Cockapoos are a cross between cocker spaniels and poodles, and many people believe they possess the best traits of both parent breeds. They’re as energetic as a cocker spaniel and as intelligent as a poodle – and of course, the non-shedding fur is a big bonus for owners who may suffer from allergies.

Because they’re a crossbreed, cockapoos’ appearance can vary. A lot of this can be dependent on whether the poodle was a Standard, Miniature or Toy version of the breed. As you would expect, this can mean that the size of a first-generation cockapoo can vary from lapdog-sized to something considerably larger. As well as size, cockapoos can also be found in different colours, with varying coat lengths and styles.

However, as more cockapoos are bred with each other (producing what is known as F2 and F3 litters) their characteristics become more predictable. They’re typically small to medium sized dogs, with wavy coats and long ears. In terms of their personalities, they are often chosen by families due to their loyalty, energy and intelligence.
